Iroquois people had many different types of art. For example, they had basket weaving, bead work, and face masks. Some of there art, faceless dolls, were made from cornhusk. Others were made from clay, hide, wood, stone, shell, and bone. Iroquois people made art to honor their ancestors.
DANCE Sometimes the dances are held just to bring the community together. Other times, the dances are held to support religious festivals. The "social dances" mare preforms in a circle, moving in counterclockwise direction and often requires partners from the community. The dances give honor to the animals and the people.
FAMILY AND SOCIAL STRUCTURE The social and family structure started 500 years ago. In the community, all the people had freedom of speech and were to be heard. They also had freedom of religion and were not forced into believing something. Although, witchcraft, treason and theft were considered to be crimes. If the person kept breaking these laws, they were kicked out of the community, they were not allowed to see family or friends, they had NO protection or support. Most representatives from the community were chosen by clans. The great council consisted of 50 sachems or peace chiefs. They controlled the clan.
GOVERNMENT The system of the clan in the community gave the Iroquois people a voice. They could voice their opinions without being frowned upon. Member of that were traveling through the lands (another tribe) were then treated as family when they stopped to rest. They all treated them the same, equally in the clan. The clan linked all the leagues together, bringing them as one.
WARFARE They had specific tribes that dealt with specific things in the clan/community. For instance the tribal council dealt with trade and its warfare. Many people in the community would trade with their neighbours. The Iroquois fought blood feuds for revenge and for honor. When they would set out they would make quick raids, taking from the other leagues.
GAMES The main reason the Iroquois played games was to improve strength and stability. Top notch stability was an advantage toward everyday activities like hunting and gathering. The Iroquois played darts, curling, and entertained themselves with a game called Lacrosse. unfortunately, the Iroquois did not have much equipment to make games so they used the bare minimum.
